SMD Resistor Code Calculator

EIA-3 103 is 10 kΩ (typically ±5 %).

Ambiguous markings such as 10R show both EIA-96 (R = ×0.01) and R-notation (R as the decimal point).

  • Pass SMD code: EIA-3 10 kΩ

Formula

3-digit EIA

R=(d1d2)×10m R = (d1 d2) × 10^m

EIA-96

R=round(100×10(i-1)/96)×m R = round(100 · 10^((i−1)/96)) × letter multiplier

10R is both EIA-96 and R-notation

Primary is EIA-96 (1.24 Ω). R-notation 10 Ω is listed as a second reading.

How it works

Chip resistors do not have colour bands. The marking is a short code that is sometimes ambiguous on purpose: the same three characters can be EIA-96 or R-notation.

Type the letters you see on the part. When more than one encoding is valid, every reading is listed so you can match the series (E24 vs E96) on the reel.

Pitfalls

  • Treating every three-character code as EIA-3. Letter multipliers are EIA-96.
  • Dropping one reading of 10R. R is both ×0.01 in EIA-96 and a decimal point in R-notation.
  • EIA-96 index 00 or 97–99 is outside 01–96.

FAQ

What does 10R mean?

Both EIA-96 (index 10, letter R = ×0.01 → 1.24 Ω) and R-notation (10 Ω). The calculator lists both.

How do I read 103?

EIA-3 — 10 × 10³ = 10 kΩ, typically ±5 %.

What is 01C?

EIA-96 index 01 with C = ×100 → 10 kΩ, typically ±1 %.

Is 000 a jumper?

Yes. All-zero markings decode as a 0 Ω link.
